5 held for extortion in Dmu

Special branch sleuths during routine surveillance duty June 7 arrested three FGN activists while extorting money from shops at New Market by serving “taxation slips”, police said. According to police, the three arrested identified as “tatar” Atoi Shohe (45), son of Xukishe; “leacy” Kasheto Chophy (39), son of late Honivi and “raja peyu” Khekiye (27), son of Ghoshito, all from Ghoshito village, Niuland were arrested while demanding money from shopkeepers under threat and intimidation. “Information slips for taxation bearing the seal of federal government of Nagaland, ministry of chaplee (finance) and cash amounting to Rs.1445 have been seized from the possession of the arrested accused,” police said. Meanwhile, in a delayed report, the west police station personnel June 4 arrested two NSCN (K) cadres while they were extorting money from residents and shops of Midland colony and adjoining area, police said. The police have identified the two accused as one Manshok Konyak, under secretary GPRN/NSCN, son of Tupa Konyak from Notun Basti, Dimapur and Alex Kikon, “section officer” of GPRN/NSCN, son of Wonimo Kikon from Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. “Cash amounting to Rs.3000 which was collected from shops was recovered from the possession of the accused,” police said, adding a case of extortion was registered against the accused.
