GPS Zeliangrong upgraded after 44 years

Government primary school Zeliangrong village established in the year 1966 was on Saturday upgraded to government middle school.
The upgraded school building was inaugurated by minister for planning and coordination, veterinary, animal husbandry and parliamentary affairs T.R Zeliang in the presence of district education officer, district inspector of schools, ward education committee, GBs, NPF party workers and school faculty members.
T.R Zeliang admitted that after reaching the school premises he had come to know more of the school and congratulated the faculty members for their achievement till date.
He said up-gradation of the schools was a big step forward and the achievement was not meant for individuals, teachers, students but was everybody’s achievement. Stating that everybody wanted up-gradation, be it in village level, school, institutions, organisations, Zeliang said with the up-gradation of the school, one’s way of thinking and aspirations should also be upgraded.
Although he lamented that technology entered late in Nagaland, Zeliang said awareness and opportunity for professional field was still was open to all. He also said with the computer technology there are various opportunity for job and therefore one should not seek white collar jobs but venture in private firms.
“Our vision and way of thinking should not be confined to class rooms and family but one should open one’s mind”, he added.
While lauding the services rendered by the teachers, Zeliang said system of management and streamline was more important than having a good number of teachers to run the school. He said that once the working system was streamlined, the management of the school would improve gradually.
Further, Zeliang said he would try to take up the representation submitted to him by former GB on behalf of the village. The representation sought attention of the minister to construct retaining wall, drainage system and the road leading to the village. He assured to implement the retaining wall construction in the current financial year.
Currently the school has an enrolment of 302 students. Teacher in-charge Tianaro briefing on the school said, with the introduction of communitisation programme, attendance of the teachers and students have improved and funds under SSA were being utilised judiciously for which she thanked the education department.
She said the school administration was satisfied under the communitisation programme and expressed hope that with the up-gradation of the school, students would be benefited. The programme was chaired by outgoing chairman ward education committee Aphie while the students presented school anthem. DEO Asono Ndang, DIS Khetoshe Sema and well-wishers attended the programme.
