Angry at the failure of the Nagaland University in declaring the results of under graduate examinations, around a hundred All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) members launch an indefinite agitation and staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here today.
The students some carrying placards termed the prevailing system in the university as “corrupt and hampering the students’ career” and demanded that the Vice Chancellor vacate the chair as he had failed to fulfill assurance that the results would be declared within 60 days that elapsed Friday night. “Enough is enough” and “justice delayed is justice denied” the placards read.
ANCSU has decided to go for indefinite 24-hour agitation at the same location till their demand was met. Around one hundred students braving rains, took part in agitation during the day while another batch with the same number would take over by the evening to continue throughout the night.
ANCSU general secretary said members from different colleges would be called to take part in the phase-wise agitation.
Earlier, the students first gather in front of the NSF office, Naga Club building before taking out a silent march to Raj Bhava. A delegation of the ANCSU also submitted an appeal in absentia to the Governor who is also the Reactor of the through Special Secretary to the Governor today.
Members said both the ANCSU and NU had arrived at an agreement on August 10,2010 at the office chamber of the secretary to the Governor, where the VC committed to declare the results of undergraduates within 60 days of the examination, as per UGC norms. Stating the university authorities had miserably failed to keep their commitment, ANCUS urged the Governor to pursue the matter on priority.
Taking to this correspondent, ANCSU General Secretary Bendangnukshi revealed that Commissioner Nagaland Banuo Z Jamir who had contacted the VC of NU assured that the results of the recently held undergraduate in Science stream will declared within the next two days and the Arts stream in a week time. The same was conveyed to the ANCSU through the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima yesterday evening. However the union refused to budged saying that the union had a signed agreement with the Vice Chancellor earlier last year that results would be declared within 60 days after exams.
Bendang said no communication through any agency will be accepted and instead demanded that the VC come to the level of the ANCSU and explain why he couldn’t declare the result on time as assured earlier. He said till the VC came to ANCSU office and explain the reason, the members will continue with the agitation day and night.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Vice Chancellor Nagaland University Prof.K.Kannan was received here regarding the delay in declaration of results.
