2 NSCN (I-M) cadres held with arms, ammo

Two NSCN (I-M) cadres including a town commander were apprehended between Ngaingu and Somdal village, Ukhrul by troops of 17 Assam Rifles Saturday and handed over to Imphal West police station Sunday along with arms and ammunitions.
In a statement, AR said-- one LMG BREN MK-1 with magazine and 15 live rounds, one SLR with four magazines and 80 live rounds, one AK-56 rifle, one Chinese AK-47 rifle with six magazines, one M-22 rifle, 133 rounds of AK rilfe and cash Rs.5070/- was seized from the duo.
AR troops acting on a tip-off nabbed ‘ss maj’ town commander Reishang Luikham (40) s/o late LK Luimalei of Kongkun village and ‘ss’ sergeant, Ramthing Kashing (33) s/o Ringkhao of Nambasi village, Ukhrul.
Sources said the Assam Rifles personnel intercepted the vehicle in which three NSCN (I-M) cadres were travelling and were reportedly heading for Hebron in Dimapur. However, one of them managed to escape in the nearby jungles. Police has registered a case against the two NSCN (I-M) cadres.
In a similar case of protest carried out against the 5 AR by womenfolk of Tamenglong and Senapati districts on May 3, womenfolk of Ukhrul district also launched a protest Saturday evening demanding the unconditional release of the two cadres. However, AR refused to release the cadres and managed to shift the duo to Imphal by chopper Sunday morning.
On May 3 last, womenfolk of Senapati had prevented 5 AR from shifting five cadres of the NSCN (I-M) including one ‘ss’ captain to Imphal and managed to release them.
However, the arms seized from them-- two AK series rifles, one carbine and one pistol were retained and handed over to police in Imphal.
