Phek district vulnerable to rodent infestation

With the onset of monsoon season and large scale rice transplantation in the TRC dominated Phek district, the department of agriculture once again conducted a one day rodent awareness campaign at Phek town hall on June 8.
The programme was chaired by Temjen, district agriculture officer Phek where Letkholal Hanshing SMS Phek and Sanuzo Nienu SDAO Pfutsero was the resource person.
The programme was attended by Ikuto Zhimomi, deputy director of agriculture Nagaland and delivered the keynote address.
In his keynote address, he informed the farmers that Phek district was one of the vulnerable districts to rodent infestation since the district shares its boundaries with Myanmar, Manipur and some other vulnerable districts of Nagaland. To this, he called upon the farmers to inform to the department immediately if any unusual rodents development arises.
He also stressed on the role of farmers as well as government machineries to achieve the goal of states vision 2020 - Food for all. Various rodent control methods were elaborated and imparted to the farmers by the resource persons, encompassing chemical methods, physical methods and biological methods.
