The longest lunar eclipse of the century occurred during the late night hours on Wednesday.
The unusually long lunar eclipse, according to the astrologists, will have a negative effect on some zodiac signs, while it will benefit others.
Natural calamities will affect the routine life of the countrymen, said astrologists when asked about the possible impact of this lunar eclipse on human lives.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes in between the Moon and the Sun. In the process, the shadow of the Moon falls on the Earth.
The total lunar eclipse which began at 12.52 am continued till 2.32 am on Wednesday late night. While the partial eclipse began at 11.52 pm and ended at 3.32 am.
The temples across the city were closed during the afternoon hours on Wednesday.
The city temples were closed at 2 pm and opened only on Thursday morning.
The devotees who reached temples especially at Parmat had to worship the Almighty from outside the temple premises. At most of the temples, the authorities had hung a notice that due to the eclipse, the premises have been closed and will be opened on Thursday morning.
The temple priests advised people to pray to god for the entire time during the hours of eclipse. They also told people to not sleep during the hours of eclipse.
According to Hindu mythology, it is considered an ill omen to consume food during the hours of eclipse.
So people either observed fast or consumed food hours before the start of the eclipse. It is now expected that several people will take a dip in the Ganga on Thursday morning to ward off the negative impact of the lunar eclipse on their lives.
