Imkonglemba for quality education

Commissioner secretary, school education and SCERT Nagaland Imkonglemba (IAS) said quality and value education was the need of the hour.
He was speaking at the inaugural programme of new government primary school (GPS) Virazouma on Friday at Virazouma (Tenyiphe - III) Village, Dimapur.
While calling upon VEC, teachers, students and parents to achieve the target and produce great leaders, he said systematic evaluation will be implemented by 2012 and Right to Education (RTE), which has already been notified, would be implemented phase-wise by 2011.
Mentioning that corporal punishments, extra tuitions, detention policy for certain level of classes would be prohibited, he said by next academic session board exam for class eight will be replaced by continuous comprehensive evaluation for which the SCERT was working on.
“Untrained teachers comprising 63% among government teachers and 85% among private teachers is a major hurdle for the implementation of RTE Act”, said Imkonglemba.
For untrained government teachers, he said the state has already prepared a roadmap so that 5 years from now, the rate of untrained teachers would be brought to a minimal level.
To ensure government schools do not produce NIL result in board examinations, he revealed the department has executed a method of granting scholarship to the best students from every GPS.
One student from class 1-5, two from class 6-8 and four from classes 9-10 would be allotted the scholarship, he added.
He also disclosed that all administrative circles under the district will be positioned with one area education officer, whose task would be to coordinate among schools, VECs and sub-divisional education officer, and that all administrative under the district will be kept under the direct control of district education officer.
It may be mentioned that Government primary school (GPS) Virazouma was established in the year 2010 with an enrollment of 150 students.
The construction of the school building was sponsored by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
