BRO has kept its promises and commenced the works for improvement and strengthening of Jotsoma By pass. Jotsoma By pass is an alternative route which skirts the major land slide area of NH-29.
Existing Jotsoma bypass road was extensively used by the traffic plying on NH-29 during August-October months of last year when National Highway was blocked at Km 175 (near old KMC waste disposal point).
Informing that improvement of works are likely to be completed in one year, BRO has urged local inhabitants along NH-29 (from Dimapur to Kohima) and NH-02 (from Kohima to Mao) not to start any construction activity arbitrarily which may cause damage to road surface.
Any such activity should be informed to HQ 15 BRTF under Project Sewak in advance to take necessary preventive measures to safeguard the road surface from damage.
It has been noticed with great concern that newly laid road surface was being damaged due to unwarranted misuse of land along NH by uncontrolled quarrying, making of approach roads & buildings without taking preventative measures, washing of vehicles on existing road surface, dumping of garbage and waste earth along the road surface, etc.
BRO has sought cooperation of the local inhabitants for better maintenance of the roads.
