‘World Environment Day’ report

SCSU: Sheanghah Chingnyu Students’ union (SCSU) observed ‘World Environment Day’ on the theme ‘Forest-nature at your service’ in collaboration with Longshen forest range by planting tree sapling along the road side from Longshen town to S/Chingnyu village.
Y. Nockyam SCSU briefed on the theme while general secretary Honman shared the importance of nature and human interrelationship. Ngophong chairman village council and Noklot head GB of Sheanghah Chingnya also spoke to the gathering.
LBC: Living Bible College, (LBC) Ayinato observed World Environment Day by organizing plantation drive in the campus on June 11. LBC family expressed gratitude to Er. Kivikhu Achumi and Hukato Chishi, ACF range officer, Dimapur for providing varieties of tree saplings to the college.
Eco-Club: Eco-Club, GHSS, Chumukedima conducted a social work on June 4 on World Environment Day under the theme “Care our planet”. Cleaning of the school campus, planting of trees and erection of fences for saplings were undertaken in the social work. Also, Eco-Garden (within the School campus) was further sanitized and beautified.
GMS Mon: Government Middle School, (GMS) Mon town observed World Environment Day on June 3 where Akangmeren Imchen, SSA, Nagaland Pollution Control Board gave a lecture on the theme, “Forests: Nature at your Service”.
He spoke on the importance of forests and how they are responsible for our existence. Imchen also highlighted information about national green corps programme, how it is formed and what kind of activities the school eco-club could take up in order to bring positive changes.
BHRC: Bridge of hope railway colony (BHRC) celebrated world environment day on June 4 with Khehoto Chishi, deputy ranger as a special guest. Tree saplings were planted around the project centre and its surrounding areas and also were distributed to community people.
ZFD: Zunheboto Forest Division (ZFD) observed World Environment Day on the theme “Forest-Nature at Your Service” at Aghunato Sub-division.
The programme was hosted by Deputy Inspector of School Aghunato on the invitation of Eastern Sumi Student Union (ESSU) body. About 300 delegates attended the function comprising of Eco-Clubs and Teacher I/C’s, Town GBs, DBs and Students from Schools. The program was chaired by G.Zhekuto Zhimomi, DFO with Akato Sumi, Addl Deputy Commissioner as chief guest.
Observation was also marked by distribution of seedlings to all the schools and government offices and Churches, volunteered by ESSU.
TSU: Tsiiswiizu Students’ Union (TSU) observed its annual plantation day in collaboration with Environment Day on June 4 at Tsiiswiizu Village, Phek. Dr. Medo-ii and Chosevoyi Dawhoii, both a member of Watershed Development Team (WDT) were guest speakers. In a press release issued by its president, Vesezo Ringa said that around 150 students, teachers, village elders’ and TSU officials participated in the plantation drive. The union has expressed gratitude to the DPO, Phek for providing saplings, WDT members for participating and the village development board for sponsoring the annual plantation day.
GPS Tening: ‘World Environment Day’ was observed on June 4 at Government Primary School (GPS) Tening organized by forest range officer Tening range in collaboration with Tening students’ union. 370 people participated at the programme with Nchunbemo Odyuo as chief guest and about 800 saplings of ornamental plants were planted.
GHSS, Phek: GHSS, Phek observed ‘World Environment Day’ organized by NSS unit and 240 students participated in the programme. Dr. Chumbeni Neikha was the resource person.
GHS Khuzama: Withthe rest of the schools and organisations, students of government high school Khuzama also observed World Environment Day programme on June 4.
