The government is ready with a draft bill for a new law to protect minorities against discrimination in education, employment and housing, a report claimed Monday. As per the new law, discriminating minorities could attract a fine of upto Rs. 5 lakh and a jail term of three years. The draft bill to constitute an Equal Opportunity Commission has been circulated by the minority affairs ministry, ZeeNews reported. The commission is being constituted based on the findings of the Sachar Committee. A fine of Rs 1 lakh per day could be slapped if the accused does not comply with its rulings. Importantly, the proposed law will cover all the minorities and also has a provision to bring in other social groups within the ambit of the law through gazette notifications.
