The two NSCN (I-M) cadres, nabbed by Assam Rifles on June 11 last in Ukhrul district and waiting for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Kolkata, were further remanded into police custody for four days.
One ‘ss maj’ Reishang Luikham (40) of Kongkan village, Ukhrul and ‘ss srgt’ Ramthing Keishing (33) of Nambasi village were produced Monday in the court of the first class judicial magistrate, Ukhrul who camped for a day in Imphal for hearing.
The hearing was conducted in Imphal on the request of the Ukhrul police citing security reason to the transportation of the duo to Ukhrul and considering the demand of some people in the district to release them unconditionally at the time of arrest.
Admitting the prayer of the police, the court remanded them till June 23 to police custody. Police source said the two were among the NSCN (I-M) cadres wanted by the CBI investigating into a case related with the assassination of former Congress MP Wangcha Rajkumar of Arunachal Pradesh in December 23, 2007.
The two cadres are in custody of a police station in Imphal after the remand. t
Police source here said a CBI team from Kolkata is likely to come to Imphal in the next few days to shift the two cadres to Kolkata for interrogation into the case after obtaining transit permission from the competent authority.
This is the second time in which CBI is to take custody of NSCN (I-M) cadres arrested in Manipur in connection with the ex-MP murder case.
Earlier, they had taken custody to one cadre of the same outfit, Kapling Laikhun (24) son of David Laikhun of Kongkhan village, Ukhrul district in connection with the same case.
If the CBI team failed to come to arrest them formally within the next three days, the duo would be sent to jail, a police officer said.
