Wokha Circle Students Union conducted a surprise checking on government schools and health centre from May 11-13 within its jurisdiction-Wokha village, Longsa village, Pongidong village and Humtso village, Elumyo village and Wokha town. According to the union, the checking was organised to keep a vigil on the government employees posted in the respective areas of work. While checking the government schools, the union observed shortage of teachers in government primary schools Elumyo and Pongidong village where there were only four to five teachers for seven classes. The union also alleged that despite request made by the village authority to appoint science teachers, the state government was yet to appoint in spite of the government middle school at Elumyo being upgraded in 1997.
According to the union, the village community hired a science teacher for government middle school Elumyo at their own expense and some teachers whose actual appointment was made in Elumyo and Humtso village was either transferred with post to Wokha town or their native places. With regard to the health services, the union observed the dispensary in Wokha town which was recognized as delivery point was devoid of facilities. Expressing concern over the prevailing working systems, the union has appealed to the head of department to strictly monitor work of their subordinates posted at different villages and also cautioned erring government staff that it would award befitting punishment regardless of their “personal relation”.
