Organisations condemn May 27 shooting incident

More Condemnation from various organisations poured in Sunday, denouncing the May 23 ‘assassination bid on the life of Imtila Jamir (retd) registrar, Nagaland Cooperative Societies.
naga Army: Reacting strongly against the assassination bid made on Imtila Jamir at Kohima on May 27, the Naga Army said it would leave no stone unturned to book the culprits.
Informing this in a release, PRO, Naga Army, Lt. Col. S. Shipo said necessary steps have been initiated and investigation was on full swing, adding befitting punishment shall be awarded if any Naga Army was found to be involved in the crime.
While expressing its condolence and a speedy recovery to the victim, the Naga Army reiterated that it would do its best to keep a check on anti-social act being committed by wayward cadres.
APO: The Angami Public Organization (APO) strongly condemned the assassination bid made on Imtila Jamir at Kohima by one Worhsim Tangkhul (Ashim) and an accomplice.
In a release the APO said that the act was too wicked and ignominious of such crimes to happen in our society, particularly against women. The APO urged the law enforcing machinery to bring to book assailants who are at large.
The APO stated that it had being following the crimes committed in and around the state with a compunction note, of most criminals acts being effected under the shadow or in connivance with unprincipled individuals in the banner of Naga nationalism. In correspondence, APO also makes a note to the various Naga political groups to rein in their members into a discipline stride and not be harbour ruffians and miscreants.
NMA: In a joint statement, Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) president, Abeiu Meru and general secretary Lochumbeni Humtsoe, strongly condemned the attack on former president Watsu Mongdang, Kohima and registrar (retd) Imtila Jamir at her residence. NMA stated that “armed intrusion into her home has exposed the security threats being faced by women from armed strangers, even within the safety of their homes”. The NMA demanded immediate arrest of the two culprits and punish as per the law.
Further, the NMA also condemned the recent spate of violence against women, young girls and children in the state. In this regard, NMA appealed the state Government to ensure justice and security of women and children by immediately arresting all perpetrators and award severest punishment.
NMA also demanded that the Nagaland Women Commission to setup a Fact Finding Committees at the earliest, to seriously conduct inquiries into the recent cases of sexual violence and murder of women and children.
ASUK: Ao Students’ Union Kohima (ASUK) has strongly condemned and denounced the assassination attempt on the life of M.Imtila Jamir. The union termed the attempt as cowardly and barbaric meted out to one of the most respectable retired government official. Expressing shock at the shameful incident, the ASUK urged all Nagas to strongly condemn such incident. ASUK also made a fervent appeal to the law enforcing agency to apprehend the culprits responsible and book them as per the law of the land at the earliest. ASUK also conveyed their sympathy to the injured family and prayed for early recovery.
MSTK: The Merangkong Senso Telongjem Kohima (MSTK) strongly condemned the attempt on life to one of the Langpangkong range officers Imtizungla Jamir (rtd) registrar of Co-operative Societies on May 27.
Describing Imtizungla as an energetic, dedicated and selfless officer who always upheld the welfare of the people, the MSTK further mentioned that living in a civilized society; one wasexpected to solve problems through human approach and not by threatening or attempting the life of others.
The union further stated that such kind of inhuman acts should not be tolerated in this society and demanded the culprits should be booked and punished as per the law.
LSTK: The Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Kohima (LSTK) has condemned the barbaric act and life attempt of Imtila Jamir. LSTK in a condemnation note, stated the incident was a “cowardice and inhuman act” not sparing even a woman in the Naga society. The union appealed to authority to do justice at the earliest and book the culprit and punish as per the laws.
ASTD: Ao Union, Dimapur (ASTD) has also condemned the mindless act of attempting to kill an innocent and unarmed woman by one Worshim Tangkhul and his accomplice on the night of May 27.
ASTD stated that at the present time when every individual, tribe and church were working hard in pursuing peace in our beloved motherland, such thoughtless act threatens the selfless effort of peace loving citizen and tantamount to insulting Naga peoples’ effort of cultivating culture of peaceful co-existence in Naga society.
While expressing solidarity and appreciation to all organizations, who raised to the occasion in condemning such inhuman act particularly against the responsible and innocent woman, ASTD felt that concerned village, tribe and organization of the alleged miscreants must also view the situation with seriousness and give extra effort to assist the law enforcing agency to arrest the culprits so as to let the land and its people live in peace.
KMST: Kohima Mongsenyimti Sensotsur Telongjem (KMST) has condemned the attempt on the life of M. Imtila Jamir by one Worshim Tangkhul on May 27. KMST appealed to the law enforcing authorities to apprehend the miscreant at the earliest and to punish him under the appropriate sections of law.
