Minister for agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry has expressed concern on the rate of population growth and requirement of food grains in the state.
While addressing senior officers of agriculture department recently to discuss the urgency of population census 2011 versus food grain requirement up to 2020, the minister urged the department officers to exercise 5% growth rate per annum for the time being taking 2011 census (19, 80,602) as base year and to ascertain actual area for assessing food grain production and requirements.
In his address H.K. Khulu, IAS, APC & principal secretary (agriculture) appealed to all the officers for collection of accurate data on priority, and to forge a linkup with irrigation department for net irrigated area by the in-charge RKVY and to work in cohesion with them.
He also asked field officers to calculate actual sown area to get the precise area under crop and food grain production.
The APC also stated that co-ordination between the department and NSAMB needed to be strengthened and a system of accounting by way of statutory auditing has to be streamlined.
He stressed on importance of strengthening NSAMB and the APMCs and to improve linkages and value chain. In the meeting, many officers expressed their concern on Cattle Trespass Act, which is yet to be implemented effectively and decided that the APC would write a letter to all DC’s and DAO’s in this regard.
