1, 09,000 illiterates in Kiphire, Longleng,Tsg

One-day training on Saakshar Bharat for block and village level was held on May 28 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall Kiphire.
The training was attended by more than 200 participants from Kiphire district.
Prantosh Datta Director SRC Tripura while sharing on ‘Shaakshar Bhatar’ which means “Literate India”, said women’s participation was imperative in every society in order to shape up the future.
According to the survey, a total of 1,09,000 illiterates were recorded in Kiphire, Longleng and Tuensang districts, he added.
Datta also shared on functional literacy, basic education, vocational and skill development and continuing education in village and block level.
Officially launched on September 8, 2009 by the Prime Minister of India, altogether 365 districts in India has being selected for this program to uplift the poor socio-economic life of the illiterate from the age group of 15 and above.
Tuensang and Mon district in Nagaland is one among the selected districts.
Since Saakshar Bharat is a programme to uplift the demand, Datta said village councils should play the main role to initiate this program where they can administer to the whole village.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by A. Rangkhaba co-ordinator DLMA Kiphire, welcome address by Imnatula DEO Kiphire followed by a short discussion.
