: Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) celebrated its 14th foundation day on May 29 at Town Hall, Dimapur. The programme was chaired by Dipak Lama. All units, frontal organizations, district Gorkha Unions from Naginimora and Peren, Gorkha GB’s of Dimapur and host of non-Gorkha community attended the programme.
Welfare Secretary Tikaram Dhakal gave a detailed report of the activities carried out by the union.
The main highlight of the programme was felicitation to Kumar Subba, Chairman DGU and Ribraj Limbu.
Kumar Subba and Ribraj Limbu were given a standing ovation for their tireless, selfless and outstanding contribution towards the upliftment of the Gorkha community.
The Dimapur Gorkha Mother’s Association, Gorkha Student’s Union Dimapur, Dimapur Gorkha Youth Club, Gorkha Hindu Milan Sewa Sangh, all the Units and members gathered acknowledged the leadership of Subba.
Delivering the chairman’s address, Kumar said Gorkhas must preserve the age old relationship with Naga brothers and lauded the Nagas for the generosity and kindness shown towards the Gorkhas.
He advocated in preserving the culture and tradition of the Gorkhas and said that loss of culture was loss of identity and that Gorkhas must be united and move forward for progress and prosperity.
He also thanked the President of Dimapur Chamber of Commerce, Hokivi Chishi for his concern for the Gorkha people and extended gratitude for the financial donation he made towards the union’s fund.
The other highlights of the programme were cultural extravaganza, a grand feast and the crowed was entertained by melodious numbers by Gorkha rock band of ARTC&S.
An election commission was also constituted which would be headed by Dipak Lama as convenor.
