EPIC, PER exercise to begin June 1

As per directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Nagaland will launch photographic campaign for electoral roll photo identity card (EPIC) and photo electoral roll (PER) from June 1 to end of July . The 2-month long exercise would be formally launched June 1, when state chief minister Neiphiu Rio will be photographed in his residential office at 8:30 a.m.
Speaking to mediapersons here Monday in his office chamber, state chief electoral officer (CEO) J. Alam informed that the campaign would be held in two phases-the first from June 1-26 and the second from July 2-27.
The draft publication of PER would be on September 30 when the exercise is expected to be complete. He said the entire exercise done by deploying booth level officers (BLO) in all the polling stations under the supervision of deputy commissioner and district electoral officer within their administrative jurisdiction. He also informed that a total of 295 cameras would be utilized for 13,38,559 electorates in 1790 polling stations.
He appealed to all eligible voters to be present in their respective polling stations for photography on the scheduled days, the details of which would be notified separately by concerned DC/DEO. Alam also appealed to all the political parties, village councils, ward authorities, civil societies, churches, student bodies and NGOs to extend cooperation to ensure accurate photo E/Roll and Photo ID cards. “Photo ID is a powerful tool for citizen empowerment,” said the CEO, and expressed hope that exercise would be successful.
