Karbi Students Association (Laichand faction) embarked on hundred 100 hour sit in demonstration on Tuesday in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Diphu.
The silent protest was joined by other students’ organizations active in Karbi Anglong to express solidarity to KSA, demanding facilities in the field of education for the backward region in Assam.
KSA’s demand include a full fledged Central University at Diphu, Provincialization of all venture colleges of Karbi Anglong, government recognized M E schools, establishment of engineering and medical college at Diphu, smooth functioning of Diphu Polytechnic and upgradation of Diphu ITI.
“The Demands of Karbi Students Association (KSA) are genuine grievances of the people of Karbi Anglong Autonomous District of Assam specially the students’ community of this backward district. It is not a political problem but issues relating to basic need of humans”, T. Touthang, president of Kuki National Assembly said while affirming support to KSA’s demand.
It may be mentioned that Assam University Diphu Campus is the lone institution for higher education in Karbi Anglong. As far as the faculty is concerned, it has only eight departments with 30 seats i.e. the intact capacity for students.
