Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Dimapur, organised one day training on rabbit rearing to the children and well-wishers of Love Care Home at Darogpathar on May 28. The training was chaired by J. Akato Chishi, deputy project director, ATMA. Other officials present at the programme were Janet Chishi, deputy project director, ATMA and Pukhashe, assistant marketing officer.
It was learned from N.K. Keny, the proprieter of Love Care Home that the orphanage had been rearing rabbits for the past three years without any basic training to generate income. The training was conducted to impart knowledge to the children on rabbitry and uplift the economy of the orphanage.
The resource person, Dr. E. Kepfoh, VAS and BTT member (Dhansaripar) highlighted the advantages of rearing rabbits and explained on different breeds, breeding habits, feed management, housing and common diseases and their treatments. A lot of interest was generated among the participants by the training and taking advantage of the presence of the veterinary doctor, a lot of questions were asked about rabbit rearing as well as other livestock animals.
