Chümukedima mothers’ association (CMA) and Muslim council Dimapur (MCD) have strongly condemned the May 28 alleged attempted rape of an 11-year-old Naga girl by one Abdul Rehman at Chümukedima town. The CMA president Rokono Shuya and general secretary Neibuno Khro in a joint condemnation note demanded the district judicial authorities to award befitting punishment as per law on “inhuman activities” committed by the accused. Further, it appealed to citizens of Chümukedima town to be vigilant against such anti- social activities. The CMA also prayed for the speedy recovery of the victim. In another statement issued by MCD working president A Rahman said Muslim council and Chumukedima Muslim community sat for joint meeting after Friday prayers at Chumukedima Jama Masjid, and decided to ex-communicate the accused from the society. The Muslim community also urged upon the law enforcing authorities to award strict punishment. MCD also expressed its sympathy with the victim and her family for the “unfortunate incident” and prayed Almighty “Allah” to provide her the courage to overcome the mental trauma. Meanwhile, the Muslim council has requested all landlords to rent out their premise only after obtaining proper documentary evidence or after consulting the Chumukedima Masjid committee to any new comers who come to settle in Chumukedima town.
