Police recovered the dead body of a non-local female believed to be in her mid-20s, from the same area where the raped and brutalized body of a minor girl was found on May 14 at Chathe riverside.
Police said the female was found totally nude with the petticoat tied around her neck. The saree , red T-shirt, lady’s handbag and a bra were strewn near the river bank and with blood splattered around the area. The victim, whose body was discovered by residents Friday at around 6 a.m. was shot on the forehead, chest and right palm.
Police suspect that after the victim was shot, the body was dragged to the riverside and left abandoned. Despite suspicions, police said post mortem reports ruled out rape.
Meanwhile, the PRO claimed some leads were found and police were zeroing on the suspect. Efforts are on to crack the case at the earliest. The body has been kept in Dimapur Civil Hospital morgue. Till the time of filing this report nobody claimed to have identified the body.
