Along with the rest of the Districts in the State, Wokha district also started the EPIC and Photography Campaign on 1st June 2011. Addressing the launching ceremony, minister for agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry, said campaign was a system for progress. He said government introduced the photography campaign to identify all its citizens and put a check to illegal immigrants.
In this regard he urged upon people to co-operate for success of this campaign and also commented strongly to avoid double entries. Deputy Commissioner Wokha Rovilatuo Mor, in his introductory speech gave a brief guideline on the functioning of the campaign.
MON: Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) & Photo Electoral Roll (PER) was officially launched at the DC’s Conference hall, Mon on June 1with the commencement of PER campaign of the three elected members of the district (a) E.E. Pangteang, Advisor DUDA & MLA of 48 Moka, A/C, (b) Konngam, MLA of 44 Pomching A/C, and (c) Lanpha, MLA of 43 Tapi A/C.
DC & District Election Officer, Mon Dinesh Kumar, IAS called upon political parties and NGOs of the district to extend co-operation and support to BLOs and supervisors in deleting all non-existing or bogus voters while campaigning for Photo Electoral Roll. Asserting that besides Elections, Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) could also be used for many genuine purposes because it was recognized all over India.
The DC also appealed to the BLOs and the Supervisors to visit their respective polling booths and inform the electorates about the commencement of the PER campaign in their polling stations for mass awareness. Konngam MLA, advisor DUDA, E.E. Pangteang and MLA Lanpha also spoke and exhorted the gathering.
