The monthly meeting of Peren district planning & development board was held on May 30 at the New DC Complex, new district headquarters. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman, T.R. Zeliang, minister for planning, Vety. & AH. MLA, 6-Peren A/C, Tarie Zeliang also attended the meeting.
During the review of previous meeting resolution on conservation of Ngoulwa Range as water catchments area for Peren district, the chairman stated that respective villages would continue to be the sole owner of the area under community conservation and priority would be given to villages who agrees to the conservation and villages whose forest comes under the conservation shall get the benefit of projects funded by the World Bank.
Earlier the Chairman stated the World Bank was granting a scheme of Rs. 5,500 crores for five years period for the four North East States of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura where two districts from each of the four states have been selected for carrying out the projects, with Tuensang and Peren districts being short-listed for Nagaland state.
Therefore, the chairman appealed villages to agree to the proposed conservation of Ngoulwa Range while also reiterating the importance of the range for Peren district as at least 10 rivers find its source in the range.
Besides deliberating various agenda DPDB also felicitated two toppers in the last HSLC examination from the district with certificate and cash awards.
The recipients of the award were W. Aotula Ozukum from All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren who stood in the 10th Position and Erina, from St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Jalukie who stood in the 48th Position in the last HSLC Examination.
