Two crude bombs were hurled at and exploded in the premises of Shimthee Ruivah, a resident of Phungreitang colony in Ukhrul town on Sunday night.
In the incident last night, however, no one was hurt or damage to the property was reported. The twin blasts took place almost simultaneously at around 9.30pm.
Police said the blasts could be the handiwork of some miscreants. However, investigation has been ordered into to ascertain if any militant groups were also involved in the incident.
Ruivah and other members of his family were indoors when the blast happened. The explosions gave a loud bang and jolted the neighbourhood in the stillness of the night.
Police confirmed the bombs were made out of crude materials and the blasts left a little impact.
Incidentally, Sunday night’s incident could be linked to the recent diktak issued by Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF), a splintered group of NSCN (IM).
MNRF had served a quit notice to all the Tangkhul Naga frontal organisations on May 11 last.
Ruivah is presently a co-convenor of the Tangkhul Coordination Committee (TCC), which was formed by the Tangkhul Naga frontal organisations in the aftermath of Manipur government’s decision to bar NSCN (IM) supremo Th. Muivah’s visit to Somdal last year.
Many Tangkhul frontal organizations had condemned the incident. The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) had termed the blasts as “inhuman”, while appealing to all not to resort to any violent acts.
