Convict escapes from hospital

Two unidentified gunmen ‘freed’ a habitual criminal identified as Suben Mandal (28) a non-local convict , who was supposed to be undergoing treatment at the District Hospital Dimapur early Tuesday morning.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, Dr. Ditsolo K. Mero, medical superintendent, Dimapur Civil Hospital said that two local unidentified gunmen arrived at the hospital at around 12.45 a.m., Tuesday and after threatening the guard, deployed to keep a vigil on the prisoner removed the hand cuff and fled with the convict.
According to Hospital authorities, there were around seven policemen deployed to guard the convict at the Hospital. However, the hospital authorities disclosed that most of the time the guards were out on leave. Medical reports stated that prisoner was admitted to the district hospital and was under medical investigation for complaints of fever, chest pain, coughing of blood.
The hospital staff said the police department need to deploy more policemen when hardcore criminals are admitted to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, SP Dimapur, Z. Mero said that Suben Madal, was in central jail for an arms and murder case and admitted at District hospital on Sunday as per the jailer of central jail.
SP said that a case has been registered at East Police station against the constable who was on duty during the incident. Investigation was still on at the time of filing of this report.
