Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kohima district on Wednesday distributed mobile handsets and SIM cards to 34 farmers’ friends, Block Technology Management (BTM) and Subject Matter Specialist (SMS).
The mobile sets were distributed by Bieu Angami, deputy commissioner of Kohima.
DC exhorting the farmers, said distribution of mobile sets to farmers’ friends, BTM and SMS signified government’s concern for the welfare of farmers.
He urged them to use technological aid to help each other.
Bieu further urged farmers to make use of wastelands that were found at large in many villages in Nagaland.
He encouraged them to develop wastelands permanently so as to pass down to the coming generations.
While maintaining that community land was a main problem barring land development, the DC said splitting land amongst owners could solve the solution. He stated that would arouse a sense of ownership, thereby developing one’s own land.
With jobs becoming a scarcity, the DC said that we should turn back to the lands and utilize them in a systematic manner. He further said that one should preserve trees in the surrounding areas while advocating horticulture and other types of farming.
DC appreciated the ATMA staff for their hard work and urged them to give their best for the welfare of the villagers. He also called upon all the beneficiaries to make use of their mobile phones to shares ideas on cultivation and development of land in all areas
Additional director of agriculture and director of SAMETI ATMA, T.V. Holo in his key note address said government was concerned whether the benefits were reaching the farmers.
He stated that in working with ATMA collaboratively, farmers would not only be benefited through mobile phones but other technological services. The programme was chaired by Nosezole Zao, district agriculture officer and project director ATMA Kohima.
