Irate mobs storm police station in Manipur

Irate villagers Thursday stormed a local police station in Imphal east district over the police inaction to book culprits involved in the death of a village youth.
The villagers numbering to hundred stormed the police station after a rally was carried out on the street along the Imphal-Yairipok road today around 10 am demanding booking of culprits to the death of a village youth, Asem Sunil Meetei of Langdum Mayai Leikai. Police resorted to firing several rounds of tear gas and also used other anti-riot equipments to push back the villagers from the police station campus. No major casualty reported in the police action.
It may be mentioned that a youth was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the roadside near a local cinema hall at Bamon Kampu under Irilbung police station, Imphal East district on the night of June 15 last.
He succumbed to his multiple injuries at JNIMS hospital, Porompat on the same night.
Police said that he sustained injuries after the motorcycle he was riding met accident after knocking down a woman pedestrian. The woman was still at JNIMS hospital.
However, villagers alleged that Sunil died as accomplices of injured woman, Aribam Abe Devi, beat him up with a blunt weapon after the accident.
