Anti-malaria month observed

Mokokchung district observed anti malaria month by organizing a district level advocacy workshop on malaria on June 22 at Ongpangkong Salang. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. S.S. Akaba, deputy CMO Mokokchung said among communicable diseases, malaria was chronic and should be treated at the earliest. He also called upon all to take the responsibility and participate in controlling the spread of malaria.
Highlighting the activities of NVBDCP, Dr. Lima, district programme officer NVBDCP Mokokchung disclosed that about three diseases are spread by mosquitoes which are common in Nagaland i.e. malaria, Japanese Encephalitis and dengue.
“Protection from mosquitoes and mosquito reduction should be everyone’s concern”, said Dr. Lima. He added the community should not only depend on the department but take initiatives in controlling malaria.
The advocacy workshop was attended by public leaders, Church leaders and teachers and pamphlets and mosquito repellent creams were also distributed to the participants. To mark anti malaria month, a free malaria blood test clinic was set up from June 21 to 22 at Imlong place, Mokokchung and out of 375 patients, 21 were tested positive. Free medicines for prevention were also distributed at the clinic.
It may be mentioned that awareness campaign is being carried out at 10 high risk villages in the district by collecting blood slide and distribution of pamphlets.
Peren: As part of state anti-malaria month, NVBDCP-Peren district organised advocacy workshop and malaria clinics at 9th IR camp, Saijang on June 20. During the workshop, district NVBDCP team presented a talk on control and prevention of malaria and treatment. R.V. Ezung (Commandant in-charge), Yanger Jamir (Adjudant) of 9th IR Bn. also participated in the program and about 62 patients got their blood tested for malaria.
Dr. Limatula Jamir, district programme officer and staff of NVBDCP -Peren has thanked Dr. Mapu (RMO), Thipuzhoyi Tunyi (quarter master) of 9th IR Bn. for extending help and cooperation in making program a success.
Dungki and Lamhai village: Advocacy workshop on malaria, dengue and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) was organized at Dungki and Lamhai village under CMO Peren district on June 21. The workshop was organized by PHC Dungki staff along with malaria department health and family welfare Nagaland in observance of anti-malaria month.
The programme was moderated by MO in-charge of PHC Dungki, Dr. Martha Mpom who deliberated on issues related to malaria, dengue and JE, sign and symptoms, mode of spread, prevention and protection of the disease, need for early diagnosis and complete treatment, hygiene issues, awareness creation and others. Local villagers, village health committee members, youth and women organizations, Churches and public leaders of the area participated in the programme.
Further SISW members from Malaria department Jalukie collected 65 blood samples for testing malarial parasites and a total of 120 patients were treated. The patients were also distributed with anti-malaria drugs and other medicines free of cost.
