A district vigilance committee supply conducted a meeting at DC’s office chamber on June 23. DC Zunheboto, Kiheto Sema in his address to the members said ration card was not only a proof of identity for availing food grains but also a supporting document and therefore a person who certifies it was considered as important.
With regard to an individual availing Old Age Pension from the welfare department as well as receiving essential commodities from schemes such as Anapurna and BPL, Kiheto requested the department of supply for scrutiny, as individuals were not eligible to avail both schemes.
Superintendent of Supply, Kapenlo Thong said the government had given the district rights only to Fair Price Shop (FPS) holders and therefore whatever commodities are to be distributed has to be routed through FPS where GBs should see whether the distribution were been made in order.
He highlighted that presently there are two godowns in the district and that initiatives were being taken by the department to construct more godown in the sub-divisional level.
With regard to renewal, removal and revision of ration cards, he said the latest biometric system would be introduced soon for identification of cards.
