The annual Assam Rifles (AR) inter-sector debate competition on human rights was organised at the ARTC & S, Sukhovi on June 22 and 23. The competition was organized with an aim to sensitize troops about human rights and importance of their strict observance while dealing with the public. Ten teams representing each sector of the AR and ARTC & S participated in the event on the topic “occasional stage-managed encounter killings of terrorists are in the interest of peace and security in the society”.A total of 40 speakers debated in Hindi and English. Rifleman Gajendra Kumar of 10 Sector and Lance Havildar Puran Singh of 21 Sector won the ‘best speakers’ in Hindi ‘for’ and ‘against’ the topic respectively. Rifleman Rongsen Ao of 10 Sector and Rifleman Joseph Roxin of 7 Sector won the ‘best speakers in English ‘for’ and ‘against’ the topic. Team of 10 Sector won the champion trophy while the team from 21 Sector was declared the runners up.
