Trainings conducted for farmers

ATMA Mon: ATMA Mon officials led by Joakting, Subenthung DPD, Kikatemjen, Vesekho BTM and Tianungsang SMS conducted a Front Line Demonstration (FLD) cum training programme at Oting village, under Mon Block on June18.
Resource person Joakting Konyak spoke on Integrated Pest Management in Rice (Oryza sativa) and also emphasized on various pests and how they infest crops and measures to be taken to control pests.
He further discussed the effects of pests and demonstrated some of the ways to control the pests.
On June 19, a Front Line Demonstration (FLD) cum training programme was conducted by resource person Kikatemjen who spoke on the prospects of tea, field preparation, cultivation and maintenance of the plucking table to harvest the crop.
Later, a field demonstration was conducted where the resource person showed how to prepare plot and the stage when to harvest the crop (plucking table).
Around 30 farmers from Longlam, Lower Tiru, Wangla and Oting villages attended the programme.
Training for self help groups
ATMA Dimapur organized one day training for Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Niuland block on June 15.
The training was conducted with an aim to upgrade the knowledge of SHGs Niuland block on agricultural and allied activities.
Exhorting the gathering, Hokhuli K. Chishi, ADC Niuland, urged SHGs to avail the facilities provided to them to its maximum and also expressed happiness over the SHGs wanting to learn more by attending such training programmes.
The training was conducted in the fields of agriculture, veterinary, horticulture and sericulture.
Resource persons, S. Kivikhu Achumi, SDAO, Niuland dwelt on the packages of practices of soyabean; Dr. Marlin, VAS & BTT convener, Niuland explained on piggery management; Meyasashi, HO demonstrated on mushroom cultivation.
Nechulu Rengma, EO encouraged the SHGs to practice Eri rearing.
Altogether, 70 members from different SHGs of Niuland participated in the training.
MC member and deputy director sericulture, Wapang along with ATMA officials of all the blocks, SDAO staff, BTT members and AES members of Nuiland block also took part in the training.
Earlier the programme was chaired by J. Akato Chishi, deputy project director ATMA. Invocation by Tokivi, pastor Niuland Baptist Church, keynote address by Ahovo Sema, DAO and project director-ATMA.
Catherine, president SHG Federation-Niuland spoke on behalf of the SHGs and vote of thanks by Janet Chishi, deputy project director ATMA.
Training on protected cultivation of vegetables
A one-day farmers training on “protected cultivation of vegetables” organized by Central Institute of Horticulture, DAC, Ministry of Agriculture, GoI, Medziphema in collaboration with Department of Horticulture, Government of Sikkim was held on May 28 at Nazitam, East Sikkim.
The resource persons for the training S.T. Bhutia, deputy director of horticulture and D. B. Tamang, joint director Government of Sikkim spoke on basics of greenhouse, site selection and greenhouse construction, irrigation system in greenhouses (design and installation) and fertigation in greenhouse and cultural practices of protected vegetables. Altogether, 60 farmers from different village in East Sikkim attended the training.
Earlier, the inaugural session was chaired by S.T. Bhutia, deputy director of horticulture, Government of Sikkim and welcome address was by D. B. Tamang, joint director, Government of Sikkim, while a brief note about the objective of training was given by Meribeni Shitiri, Horticulture specialist CIH Medziphema.
The programme wrapped up with vote of thanks by Phup Lhama, HDO Government of Sikkim.
