Four days after Dr YS Sachan was found dead, his wife Malti Sachan has filed an FIR with the UP police.
The FIR is against unknown people under sections of murder and criminal conspiracy.
Dr RK Sachan said, “We are happy but not satisfied. We will continue our demand for a CBI probe.”
And that was not all. On Sunday, the state government’s claim that Dr Sachan had committed suicide was contradicted by its own official. A Joint Director in the UP Forensics Department who said the post mortem clearly pointed towards murder.
DR YK Pathak said, “Injury marks indicates that attempt was made to present homicide as suicide. All wounds could not have been inflicted by Dr Sachan himself. It’s a case of homicide and not of suicide.”
Dr Pathak is responsible for giving the final word on all custodial deaths that occur inside the jails in Uttar Pradesh. But he isn’t the only one who is raising questions about the UP government’s theory of suicide.
CNN-IBN spoke to independent forensic experts in Delhi who agree with Dr Pathak’s statement.
Forensic expert Dr RK Sharma said, “Nobody can hang himself after his death. It is illogical to think when it’s already written that injury nine is after his death there is no doubt it’s a case of murder.”
Professor NK Aggarwal who is a forensic expert with the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) agrees.
“While injuries one to eight were ante mortem, injury number nine was clearly inflicted after Dr Sachan was dead”, said Dr Aggarwal.
He added, “Whenever it is written that it’s a post mortem injury it means that the mark has been produced after the death. The death might have occurred a few hours before this injury was made.”
There are several unanswered questions that remain - why wasn’t the viscera of Dr Sachan stored? The cabinet secretary had clearly said that it had been. A claim later rubbished by top police officials.
Why has the UP police been insisting that this was a case of suicide? Why have politicians involved with the MCO department not been questioned and why has former Lucknow CMO AK Shukla, who is named in the same FIR as Dr Sachan not been questioned in connection with the death?
With not just Dr Sachan’s family but even forensics experts raising questions about the UP government’s suicide theory, the story behind the death of Dr Sachan is far from over. This may in fact, just be the beginning.
