Think for the welfare of society: Rio

Chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Sunday called upon the chemists and druggists not to think only about their own interests but also about the welfare of society.
Addressing the 5th executive meeting of All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), NE Zone at Niathu Resort hosted by Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NDMA), Rio said the organization can help in bringing about a vibrant and healthy society.
“Health is wealth. If you want to build a vibrant society, you have to build a healthy society,” he said.
On spurious and expired medicines flooding the market, the chief minister asked the chemists and druggists to remain alert and also urged them to take the profession seriously while dealing with lives of people.
The chemist and druggist have very big responsibility to perform and it’s a much disciplined profession, he said
He further said that world has witnessed tremendous advancement in medicines and drugs as nowadays everyone is conscious about their health.
Appreciating the NMDA for hosting the meeting in Nagaland, the chief minister said that such meetings should be organized on rotation basis in the northeast to help and support the chemists and druggist and also to protect each other.
Also speaking on the occasion, AIOCD vice president Dr. Natwarlal Agarwala said the AIOCD with 7.5 lakh members is the biggest medicine dealers’ union in the world providing health services to the people for the past 35 years.
Apart from providing medicines to the urban and rural areas, the AIOCD also conducts education programmes, he disclosed.
AIOCD vice president also urged chief minister Neiphiu Rio to look into the communication problems being faced by medicine dealers so that every citizen, including rural population, can avail life-saving drugs.
Nagaland Medicine Dealer’s Association (NMDA) president Ato Yepthomi in his welcome address thanked chief minister Rio for his concern for the medicine dealers.
AIOCD observer V Jagushte and Basu Damani also spoke on the occasion.
The meeting was attended by host of delegates from northeastern region.
