RIST 5% seat reserved for Nagaland

Regional Institute of Science & Technology, (RIST) an engineering college in Meghalaya has reserved 5% seats for the students from Nagaland for the B. Tech courses. The selection of these students would be done by the state government under higher and technical education department.
Besides, RIST have also earmarked some other opportunities for the students of Nagaland especially for rural meritorious and poor students in different institutions under Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF).
Speaking to Nagaland Post, chairman ERDF, Guwahati, chairman board of governors, University of science and technology, Meghalaya, director, central IT College and coordinator for National commission for minority educational institutions Mahbubul Hoque disclosed that ERDF would provide free education to three students from economically backward families in Nagaland provided, the students are meritorious.
He said these three students should be nominated by a renowned academician and renowned social worker and not politician. Besides free education, these students would also get a scholarship of Rs. 30,000 under ministry of minority affairs if they secure 60% in their academic field.
Hoque also said officials from state higher & technical education department accepted the proposal to send students from Nagaland and that officials would also be visiting the campus soon.
