Drawing attention to allegations that police was offering protections to certain factions Police Wednesday sought to clarify in order to clear the misconceptions. Addl. DG (adm.) and state police PRO S.T.Sangtam said since the inception of cease fire between union government and the NSCN factions, police escorts were detailed as and when requisition was received from the office of the chairman, cease fire supervisory borad/cease fire monitoring cell. According to PRO police escorts were detailed for protection of high ranking leaders of different factions whenever they go out from one district to another for negotiation / peace talks / reconciliation process in various parts of the state. “In this regard, the union ministry of home affairs also issues directives to detail necessary security escorts for protection of those high-ranking leaders in view of apprehension of attacks from rival factions,” the police said. Otherwise, the PRO said no directives/orders have been received so far from state government for providing police security during the movement of high-ranking leaders of different factions.
