Nagaland Irrigation and Flood Control (NI&FC) department held a meeting on June 29 under the chairmanship of R. Binchilo Thong, IAS commissioner and secretary government of Nagaland. The meeting was attended by officials of the department T. Nungsang Ao additional secretary I & FC, Er. T Yanger Ao chief engineer, Er. Echongbemo Lotha additional CE, Er. Njilo Kemp, S.E-I, Er. Vitoshe Swunetho, S.E- Invn circle, Er. Razouvolie Kelio, E.E, Invn circle, Er. Sobu Angami, E.E-III and K.M Varghese, J.E Invn circle. Circle of I & FC department.
A press release issued by Er. T. Yanger Ao chief engineer I & FC said that during the course of meeting, it emerged that the damages of the protection work along Chathe river bank within the vicinity of CIHSR were mainly induced due to pilferages of construction materials such as wire nets and boulders and also due to rampant extraction of river bed materials (sand gravels) all along the construction site. The department said that in this connection, it had in the past, informed the administration to prevent pilferages and rampant extraction of construction materials but was going on unabated. Meanwhile, in view of the intensity of damages caused by the recent flood and also in anticipation of similar floods within the season, the department said that it has proposed a contingent plan to contain further damages and also resolved to frame a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on a long term basis for protection of CIHSR complex.
