Nagaland University Teachers’ Association Kohima (NUTAK) has alleged a scam of massive proportions involving Dr. N.D.R.Chandra Dean of NU Kohima Campus, Meriema during 2009 where applications sent to the deparment for teaching posts were concealed and “hidden by Dr Chandra”.
NUTA President, in “An Open Letter” addressed to VC Nagaland University, claimed that Dr. Chandra denied the allegation despite a letter issued by the Deputy Registrar (Estt) on April 5, 2011 proving otherwise. NUTAK claimed that Dr. Chandra had “at one point of time” disclosed that the applications were in his residence and added that this was “an attempt to victimize eligible candidates.”
Another serious allegation against Dr. Chandra was a molestation case against him while conducting a refreshers course for college teachers in 1999. NUTAK said Dr. Chandra was indicted by a probe but later the reports “suddenly went missing” and the case kept in cold storage.
It also alleged that Dr Chandra was appointed Professor through “illegal maneuvers” even when his application for professorship was rejected in 2002 by the Screening Committee on ground of “poor qualification.”
In addition, NUTAK alleged that in 2009 Dr. Chandra manipulated award of doctorate to Dr. N.K. Prasad and Dr. John Wesly despite their thesis lying unevaluated in the Examination Section at that period. It also alleged that Dr Chandra fraudulently drew royalty for a book he did not write after insisting the inclusion of his name as co-author. NUTAK also alleged that Dr. Chandra manipulated selection of viva voce for research scholars for PhD on June 7, 2011 during the PGSU meet in Kohima without presence of faculty experts etc of the department.
NUTAK also alleged that Dr. Chandra arm harassed research scholars of other supervisors by keeping their PhD registrations pending indefinitely and compelling them to engage his classes to evaluate answer scripts since such confidential matters cannot be transferred to others, especially scholars.
It was also alleged that Dr. Chandra never involved faculty members for constituting panels for examiners for various post graduate examinations and external experts for boards of schools, PG studies and under graduate studies, especially in the English department.
NUTAK also alleged that the English department had complained to the VC that no departmental research committee meetings were held to discuss MPhil/PhD synopses as was mandatory. It said Dr. Chandra often changed panel of examiners submitted by the supervisors “with a malalfide intention” resulting in poor evaluation standards. NUTAK also accused Dr. Chandra of manipulate and distortion of decisions of board of PG studies and School Board and defamation and personal discrimination and harassment of colleagues under the English department. NUTAK said despite various representations submitted to him (Prof K. Kannan, VC Nagaland University) no action was taken against Dr. Chandra . It reminded the VC that he had once accused Dr. Chandra in his office in 2009 in presence of a professor from Andhra University that he (Dr. Chandra) cannot even speak or write correct English.
NUTAK demanded that the VC take cognizance to the above and initiate disciplinary action against Dr. Chandra and to remove him from the sensitive posts.
