Yanmhon Village Council (YVC) has appealed to the chief wildlife warden Forest Department Dimapur to restrict the wild elephants from intruding into the village area.
A press statement issued by Zumomo Mozhui, chairman YVC stated that in an area called Phoyo valley, around 400 acres of cultivated terrace field has become a permanent grazing ground of wild elephants and has forced the villagers to stop cultivation in the valley for the past six years, thus afecting the economic living of those living under Below Poverty Line.
Within three years, YVC said four people have lost their lives and many were injured, besides damage caused to houses, properties and plantation.
Therefore in the interest of public services, the village council has urged the Wildlife department to look into the matter and also arrange alternative measures for cultivation for economic survival of the people.
