Green-SONS has called for strict implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for sustainability of the people and ecosystem.
Green-SONS said the application of Article 371A in any part of the state or in Changpang oil field for exploration of crude oil or development of any mega projects with mere determination to uplift the economy of the state through royalty income or land compensation without making thorough environmental assessment could result in the degradation of the environment, loss of bio-diversity and displacement of local populace.
Recollecting the failure of the ONGC and the erstwhile state government on oil exploration and denial of equity to the land owners of Changpang area and the subsequent ecological imbalance in the area, the organization in a press statement issued by Jess T Murry, chairman and Asenla Aier, information and publicity secretary has appealed the state government sub-committee for exploration of oil and mineral resources to seriously view restoration of better environment and ecological balance of the area.
Green-SONS also urged them to aim for sustainability of the environment in the future course of any mega project implementation in the state.
