Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme, which was rolled out September 23, 2018, has covered 2.33 lakh households (over 10 lakh individuals )in Nagaland.

The scheme provides a defined benefit cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year to the deprived and vulnerable families in India for serious health conditions which require hospitalization.

The scheme provides cashless service for hospitalized care and in Nagaland 1534 treatment packages have been provided.

This was stated by consultant, programme management, GIZ, AB-PMJAY Nagaland, Sao Tunyi.

He said that till July 28, 1,17,438 cards have been generated in Nagaland and a total of 1,662 pre-authorizations have been raised amounting to Rs. 2.4 crore.

He also said that they were doing their best to help educate the people on the scheme as many Nagas were not aware of it.

PMJAY does not cover all diseases and all aspects of medical care.

But after having registered as a PMJAY patient and if money is being charged for the treatment then a patient can lodge a complaint to the hospital authority, district health authority, or State Health Agency PMJAY.

The complainant can also air their grievances by using the PMJAY grievance redressal portal at the website.

Tunyi also informed that RSBY has been replaced by PMJAY.

He informed that the beneficiaries for PMJAY has been excluded based on Socio-Economic and Caste Census 2011 (SECC 2011).

RSBY card holders who have renewed their cards in 2016-17 have also been excluded in the scheme as their names already exist. In the existing names/families, members can be added by way of birth, marriage, or adoption on producing evidence. But no new family can be enrolled and added into the lists or PMJAY scheme.

Meanwhile, when this correspondent met a patient’s family in Naga hospital, they stated that they had made their cards when the team visited the village and has helped them immensely.
