ABAM, MTABCM urge for Mini Hornbill safeguards

Ao Baptist Church Association (ABAM) and Mokokchung Town Ao Baptist Churches at Mokokchung (MTABCM), while acknowledging the Mini Hornbill Festival being organized by the state government at Mokokchung town from August 1-3, 2018, have requested the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mokokchung to take measures for the conduct of the proposed festival.
In a letter addressed to the deputy commissioner (DC) Mokokchung, ABAM executive secretary, Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, and MTABCM chairman, Puryapang, sought complete ban on use, supply or consumption of all forms of alcoholic drinks and intoxicating substances within the the festival venues.
The Church also requested for a ban on explosives like fire-crackers in the town during the festival.
ABAM and MTABCM asked the DC to hold discussions with festival organizers and ensure that all night long events or programs running into the wee hours were not organized so the people as well as the participants could be back home latest by 9 p.m.
Emphasising on the need for the government to not indulge in extravagant or avoidable spending in conducting the festival, the Church requested the DC to issue appropriate orders to not allow any form of gambling or betting games as part of the festival celebrations in or outside of the festival venues.
In order to prevent the possibility of crime, especially assaults on women, street brawls etc, ABAM and MTABCM requested the DC to solicit confidence and cooperation of the town sector committees and also enhance people-friendly policing in the entire town during the festival.
