ACAUT stands behind PAC leaders; shocked at WC’s ‘personal attack’

DIMAPUR, NOV 7 (NPN) | Publish Date: 11/7/2019 11:37:00 AM IST

ACAUT Nagaland has expressed shock at the personal attack by the Working Committee(WC) of the 7-member NNPGs against Public Action Committee (PAC) convenor Vekhosayi Nyekha and co-convenor K. Ghokheto Chophy, who were credited with rendering “yeoman service” to contain the most pressing problem of the Naga public- unabated and multiple taxation at check gates in Dimapur.

ACAUT chairman Tia Longchar and secretary Hetoi Chishi described the WC statement that the two PAC members and their children have treated the Naga freedom fighters with contempt as “uncalled for and a diversionary tactic from the real issue”.

Rather ACAUT reminded that it was “an open secret” that most of the high ranking officials of various Naga political groups were living luxurious lifestyle ever since cease fire came into existence.

ACAUT also posed a question on the government of India that when guns are given to card holders under the Cease Fire Ground Rules, why were ration cards not sanctioned for the sustenance and survival of those in the designated camps?

ACAUT said it was common knowledge that “under the very nose of surveillance agencies” various groups were collecting unabated taxation from all government employees.

ACAUT affirmed that PAC members are representatives of different NGOs and apex tribe bodies and therefore, have the mandate of their respective tribes and organisations to collectively represent the voice of the people in the sustained outcry against unabated taxation.

ACAUT reminded that as a follow up to the ‘Naga Concordant’, all the NPGs agreed in principle to the formation of a Naga national government through the Lenten Agreement of 2014. According to ACAUT, Naga public eagerly awaited this to happen and which would mean “One Government One Tax” but unfortunately, it did not materialise.

ACAUT also reminded that the report High Power Committee was submitted to the state government in 2016 for implementation as part of modalities for solution to unabated taxation. The HPC was constituted with three members headed by Justice(Retd)H.K.Sema to probe and provide specific details and recommend ways to solve the issue by those responsible for taxations.

It said when people were looking forward with hope and expectations, the responses should also be based on fair and just policies as the issue was out in the open. ACUAT said the God given opportunity to engage in dialogue should be utilised to discuss and transform Nagaland from a begging mentality to abundance and opportunities for the future generation.

On Wednesday, the WC, NNPGs termed PAC-led drive against collection of money as “anti-solution and ill-motivated stratagem” and asked PAC convenor and co-convener to take full responsibility if NNPG rank and file face starvation.
