Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, Saturday reminded that universities played a crucial role in providing students with the new knowledge and skills needed to meet countless challenges in a changing and globalized world.

Addressing the formal session of the 27th Fresher’s meet of the Nagaland University Students’ Union (NUSU) Kohima Campus, Meriema at RCEMPA on September 1, 2018 as the guest speaker, the governor opined that universities have the responsibility of producing not only educated but also well equipped and highly skilled manpower for overall development of the society.

On the occasion, the governor reminded the students of the adage “work is worship” and encouraged them not to shy away from hard work. Acharya emphasised on the importance of having dialogues between University, Industries and Trade sector for the development of the state and employment of the students when they pass out.

He also reiterated that students should take up entrepreneurship and be job givers and not job seekers.  Stating that government sector has reached a saturation point for employment, he said youth need to look beyond government jobs.

Acharya said students have to excel not just in academics but expand their interest in other vocational education in order to acquire relevant skills, including skills needed for work and entrepreneurship.

NU pro vice chancellor, Kohima Campus, Prof RC Gupta, also exhorted the students on the occasion.
