Advocacy programme on HIV & AIDS

Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO) social wing of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) organised one day advocacy programme for local area church leaders on HIV & AIDS under Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association (KBCA) on June 19 at its mission centre, Komking, Noklak under Tuensang district.

A press release by NDO stated that the resource persons for the programme were in-charge ART Centre Tuensang, Dr. Toshi Jamir, Rev. C. Amop Noklang and A. Vikheho Chisho from NDO.

The release stated that the resource persons spoke on topics such as, “What is HIV? How it is transmitted?”; “How can we prevent from the disease?”, “reduce stigma and discrimination” and “responsibility of the church to create an enabling environment”.

Meanwhile, NDO stated that to make its ministry relevant to the present changing time, the NDO has identified health (specifically HIV & AIDS) as one of the pertaining issue that is prevailing in Naga society.

In the context of a Christian state like Nagaland, NDO said the church undoubtedly has a great responsibility in the fight against the pandemic of HIV & AIDS. 

It said NBCC has recognized the seriousness of the problem and continues to fight against the pandemic across the state actively by training and equipping church leaders time and again with the support of the Legislator’s Forum on AIDS (LFA).

The release said NDO and LFA having common goal have partnered in order to reach out to the masses in advocating and training church leaders to take up more responsibility by addressing the issue appropriately and with compassion.
