Crossing the Brahmaputra is likely to get a tad easier in Assam. Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bogibeel Bridge-the country’s longest rail-cum-road bridge connecting Dhemaji and Dibrugarh-the Assam government has said that another bridge over the Brahmaputra is in the offing.

According to India Today, the state government has said that a survey has been commissioned to see the viability of constructing a bridge near Silghat. Assam Minister of State of Railways Rajen Gohain said the survey is near completion. He said the government can consider to include the project in the upcoming Budget.

The Minister was speaking at a ceremonial function for flagging off a new train from Silghat (Assam) to Kolkata, signalling transformation of the middle Assam areas through improved communication.

“The introduction of this new train is another step towards transformation through transportation announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The new train consists of 19 new state-of-the-art LHB coaches having modern amenities and facilities,” Gohain said.

Speaking about the benefits of the train route, he said tourists who are travelling to the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary will benefit because the train will have stoppages at Amoni and Jakhalabandha, which are located close to Kaziranga.

The minister also said that a Delhi-bound train and a South India-bound train will also be considered for introduction from Silghat soon.
