Agricultural Technology Management Agency activity reports

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) is a society of key stakeholders involved in agricultural activities for sustainable agricultural development in the district. The agency has been involved in continual efforts to bring the latest farming technology and methods to farmers. Following are some reports from across Nagaland.

Tseminyu block: ATMA Tseminyu block, Kohima district inaugurated a dairy farm school at Henbenji village on June 20. A press release from ATMA Tseminyu block stated that the farm school was inaugurated by Viwheto Thorie, SDAO & ATMA BTT convenor. Altogether 11 farmers, most of whom were progressive farmers, attended the program. The farmers were taught about the avenues/prospects from the farm school (dairy farm) such as educational, economic, employments and field technical necessities.

Tening bock: ATMA Tening bock, Peren District held a training and demonstration program on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and inaugurated an SRI Farm School at Old Tesen Village at the residence of SRI farm school teacher Idacu, July 2.

The program was chaired by ATM, Tening Pezavitso Haralu. The training was delivered by ATM, Tening Woshanthung Jamoi while the demonstration was shown by BTT Convenor and SDAO Tening Dr. Zeileigai Ndang. Idacu shared his experiences and mentioned that his production had been raised 50%. A total of 32 SRI farmers attended the program.

Meanwhile, on July 3, Kisan Ghostis was conducted at Old Tesen where a total of three SHGs participated in the program. Various farm, weaving and semi processed products etc. were displayed and sold during the program. 

A fishery farm school was also inaugurated at Nchangram Village followed by training and demonstration on fish pond management at the residence of fishery farm school teacher Agum, on July 4. Altogether, 25 fish farmers attended the program.

Later, a food security group was also established in Old Tesen Village with the group name Kesamtei comprising fully of women folk on July 5. A total of two trainings and demonstrations were conducted, two farm schools were inaugurated, two success stories were reported, one food Security Group was formed and Kisan Ghostis comprising of three SHGs were carried out from July 2 to 5, by the Tening Block of ATMA Peren district.

Peren block: ATMA Peren block, on July 10, launched Chato farm school at Punglwa village. In his inaugural speech, DAO & PD ATMA Peren, Hewoto Sema, congratulated the farm teacher, Chato, for his success in farming. 

He further advised the attendees to practice organic farming with the best locally available and improved varieties and enhance their productivity with improved technologies and Indigenous Technology Knowledge (ITK).

Deputy PD, Akam Zeliang, highlighted the concept of farm schools while the farm teacher thanked ATMA Peren for opening the farm school at his farm.

The program was chaired by AO and convener, Mapeuheile Ndang and the program ended after an interaction session with farmers followed by vote of thanks by deputy PD, Yezaho Swu.

ATMA Peren district also conducted a within state farmers exposure tour to State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) under Mokokchung district from August 1 to 4. 

A press release from one Yezaho Swu of ATMA Peren stated that during the tour, a technical session was conducted by farm manager SARS, Temsu. He imparted knowledge on the cultivation practices of winter vegetables and briefed the farmers on the subjects of pests and disease management of various crops. Farmers from Peren district also got the opportunity to experience the Tsungremong Festival (Mini-Hornbill Festival) and visited various stalls set up by farmer groups, NGOs and other agri & allied business establishments. The entire tour was led by two deputy project directors of ATMA Peren district.
