All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) on Sunday decided to shutdown Dhanamanjuri (DM) University, a cluster university newly established in 2018 by the state government, from Monday alleging that the university was functioning only for namesake. The announcement was made when the counselling of first semester PG was also due to begin from Monday. AMSU president, Peter Laishram alleged that careers of students was put at stake as the university was yet to function as a full-fledged university.

He also alleged that besides not affiliating to the Association of Indian University, the university was yet to appoint regular vice chancellor and registrar. It also did not have its own syndicate members, academic council and deans of the university. The university is also yet to appoint its own teaching and non-teaching staff, he alleged. The ban will continue until the state government and concern education department take up necessary steps, Laishram said.
