All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) and Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) Thursday reminded the department of higher education and the state government to disburse second and final instalment of post-matric scholarship (PMS) to Scheduled Tribe students 2019-2020 within the next ten days.

In a joint  press  statement, ANCSU president Vimeyiekho Vitso and ENCSU president Serichum Sangtam  said they could understand the “undesirable circumstances” faced by the government functionaries due to the pandemic, but were “unsatisfied” with the sincerity of the government concerning the scholarship matter.
The two bodies pointed out that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Scholarship Division) had sanctioned an amount of Rs.32,26,37,000 towards second instalment for the year 2019-20 and first instalment (25% of central share) for the year 2020-21, dated September 18, 2020. However, they said that the state department of higher education and the state government have failed to disburse the second and final instalment till date.
The unions said that they understood requisite procedure to issue drawal authority, but would not remain as mute observers when the interests of students were “deliberately disregarded.”
ANCSU and ENCSU have, therefore, appealed to the department of higher education and the state government to understand the scholarship need by the students and immediately complete the requisite procedures to ensure that the second and final instalment for Post-Matric Scholarship ST 2019-2020, was disbursed to the students.
