ANSS to set up a unit in Dimapur

An interaction meeting between the Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU), Gorkha Students Union Dimapur, intellectuals from Dimapur and Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) was held on October 3 at Hotel Mayur conference hall, Dimapur.

A press release by DGU chairman, Kumar Subba stated that, president of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS), Durga Khatiwoda highlighted about the ANSS and also expressed his willingness to have a unit in Dimapur. He spoke about the benefits for the Gorkhas of Nagaland in the field of literature through the unit of ANSS. He mentioned the contributions in the development of Nepali literature in North Eastern part of the country by the Gorkha litterateur of Nagaland, Hari Prasad Gorkha Rai. He said this would bridge the Gorkhas of two states who share decades old relationship. Durga Khatiwoda also encouraged the Gorkhas of Nagaland to gain back the old glory in the field of Nepali literature.

Chairman of DGU, Kumar Subba stated that Nepali literature should be encouraged in Nagaland for coming generations as the Gorkhas of Nagaland were losing their identity in Nepali and in the field of literature as well. He further said that majority of Gorkhas in Nagaland at present do not know how to read and write Nepali language. He further said the Nepali language was officially included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India but in the context of Nagaland, the Gorkhas were forgetting the language which was their identity. He highlighted briefly on late Hari Prasad Gorkha Rai who has been termed as the jewel of Gorkhas of Nagaland in Literature. He said the establishment of Nepali Sahitya Sabha, unit will inspire eminent and new litterateurs of the state in the field of Nepali literature.

DGU and GSUD supported to form a unit of Nepali Sahitya Sabha in Dimapur, and a seven member convening committee has been formed to consult the Gorkhas of Dimapur. Kumar Subba is convenor of the committee, Anupama Kattel co-convenor and the members of the committee are Sukumar Pradhan, LB Gurung, Sekhar Chettri, Anand Gurung, Asha Gurung.
