APO lauds WSH stand on name usage

DIMAPUR, APR 9 (NPN) | Publish Date: 4/9/2019 12:30:01 PM IST

Angami Public Organisation (APO) has appreciated and extended “full support” to Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) for taking “bold steps” concerning usage of Naga names and surnames by the non-Nagas.  APO through its press and media cell said that Naga names and surnames, as mentioned by the WSH, should be used only by true original Nagas.

Stating that there was a time when Nagas embrace even non-Nagas into the society, APO, however, said that now the infiltration of non-Nagas into Naga society has increased a thousand-fold and keeps increasing day by day. “We are all aware of it now and unless this dangerous trend is checked or stopped completely before it is too late, not only our businesses and properties would be totally taken over by them but our very own identity, traditions and culture including our land will be lost and swallowed completely by these non-Nagas,” APO said.
APO therefore lauded WSH for taking stringent action and for standing firmly in maintaining the Naga identity and protecting our heritage. It urged all tribal Hohos to extend solidarity to the WSH at all cost in safeguarding Naga names and surnames now and in the future. Further, APO has warned Advocates/Notary public/s against taking up such cases of usage of Naga names and surnames by Non-Nagas in the future as pointed out by the WSH.
